Infosys Store Modernization Solution
The requirements of applications that support in-store operations and online shopping are very different. While digital apps aim to provide customers with a seamless online shopping experience, store applications need to operate offline with resilient hardware and software that is always available and operational.
Based on its geographical location, each retail store has different business capabilities. In all cases, however, retail store applications must possess robust infrastructure capacity and network bandwidth to connect to the central data center or cloud – irrespective of the underlying hardware – so that they can ensure efficient operations. However, legacy data sync solutions have limited capacity to support this.
Most in-store applications are monolithic and use batch-based replication. They run on legacy hardware, use file downloads and API calls for data synchronization, and load entire datasets into the application memory.
Infosys Store Modernization Solution, part of Infosys Cobalt, addresses these major challenges across three layers of in-store application architecture. The solution:
Infosys Store Modernization Solution leverages the edge capability of Couchbase, which is an enterprise-class No SQL database. It deploys applications in the store using K3S, a lightweight Kubernetes application, thereby delivering a robust solution that is ‘always on’ with real-time data sync and very high resiliency.
